HOW DO I CHOOSE MY PERFECT WATCH?

Choosing your perfect watch

WITH SO MANY WOMEN’S WATCHES IN THE MARKET TO CHOOSE FROM IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHERE TO START. THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN ASKING, HOW DO I CHOOSE MY PERFECT WATCH?

WHAT SIZE WATCH SHOULD I BUY?

Watches have been large and masculine for some time now but the market is changing and the size and feel of ladies watches is getting smaller and more feminine.

Your first consideration should be what size watches do you feel comfortable wearing. Watches can vary in size from a petite feminine 15mm to an oversize statement 45mm!

Think about what clothes you wear, tailored, casual or dressy and link this to what size watch will fit with your style.

WHAT CASE SHAPE SHOULD I BUY

The market has many different shapes available from round, rectangular to square shaped watch cases. With the market trend being round for a long time, we are at last seeing some new shapes coming into the market. Square cases are currently starting to make an impact with a lot of brands introducing this shape to sit along side the round cases in their collection.

WHAT COLOUR METAL DO I CHOOSE?

You generally have three choices Silver, Gold or Rose Gold.

Rose Gold crept into the market a couple of years ago and has taken a huge presence. Rose gold is more temperamental plating and care must be taken, Perfume, creams and chemicals should all be kept away for your watch.

Gold plating is more durable and silver won’t wear at all if you watch is made of stainless steel.

WHAT METAL IS THE WATCH CASE MADE FROM?

There are 2 main materials used to make the metal parts on the watch. Alloy (entry price level), Stainless steel ( mid to high price level, strong and durable).

Low price fashion watches normally use alloy so the watch will be affordable throw away fashion.

Stainless steel is the main material that is used by quality watch brands and this is what we use at OWL.

It is a much stronger material and can withstand knocks and bumps much more. Also it is a lot easier to use long lasting platings on Stainless steel.

WHAT IS THE STRAP MADE FROM?

Lower price watches commonly use PU (plastic) materials that can have a look of leather but is actually a type of plastic and is a much lower cost and a lot less durable than leather.

More premium brands generally use real genuine leather making the strap a much softer feel and much longer lasting.

Here at OWL leather is key to us. We carefully select out leathers ensuring quality, softness, durability, finish, colour to ensure our collection is relevant and on trend.

SHOULD I BUY A BRACELET OR STRAP?

There have been big cases on bracelets over the past few years but this is now changing. Leather straps are making a key stand in the market with celebrities teaming up strap colour with outfits, magazines featuring seasonal colours.

Bracelet models are now also much more feminine and easier to wear than before too.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ?

When buying a watch ask “do you love it? “ A watch is a key fashion accessory and it should always make you feel like it is finishing you outfit when you wear it. It should make you feel special and fit with your style.
